ANDREA SCHAEFER

Ms. Andrea Schaefer, is the owner of Barefoot Dance Studio which opened in the fall of 2007 in downtown Rapid City offering Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Mixed-Ability Dance in a casual and professional atmosphere.  Andrea is currently the President of the Dance Network of South Dakota. She has danced with international choreographers; Esther Balfe, Georg Blaschke, and Jonathan Kane. Andrea danced professionally with Bill Evan’s Dance Company, Donna Jewell Dance Company and Theatre, Keshet Dance Company and Ecotone Physical Theatre based in Albuquerque, NM and danced with Lawine-Torren, an Austrian dance company for two years. Miss Andrea returned to the Black Hills after receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of New Mexico. Locally, Andrea has been hired to dance and/or choreograph for Dakota Dance Company, the DahlFine Arts Center, and Black Hills Community Theatre and Flutter Productions. Awards include: Rapid City Cultural Affairs Artist Appreciation Award and Overall Outstanding Choreography (Regional and National Spotlight Dance Competitions), the 2010 Community Connections Award from Black Hills Workshop Foundation and a National Community Building Award from ANCOR in 2011. She is also the founder of Outright Dance Theatre, a mixed-ability modern dance and theatre company based out of Rapid City.
