Sarah Caterisano (Cat) started dancing at age 2. She is an honors graduate of Southern Methodist University in Texas where she majored in Dance and Advertising. Sarah has been teaching and choreographing for a variety of schools for over 10 years, including the Dallas I.S.D, Dance Interim of Michigan, and New York City’s leading studios STEPS on Broadway and Dance New Amsterdam. Many of Sarah’s students have gone on to receive top awards at national dance competitions and scholarships to summer workshops such as Joffrey New York, Ballet Austin, Ballet Magnificat and Ballet Chicago. While at SMU, Sarah was cast in Balanchine’s Serenade, and featured in works like William Forsyth’s Vile Parody of Address, Maurice Béjart’s Batucada, Martha Graham’s Primitive Mysteries, and Twyla Tharp’s Octet. Sarah has had the honor of performing professionally the Martha Graham solo, Lamentation, commissioned by the Dance Notation Bureau and The Martha Graham Dance Ensemble. Notational score and films of her dancing are now at the Library of Congress in New York for Graham’s Lamentation and Primitive Mysteries. After graduating from SMU, Sarah toured Europe dancing as a guest artist for Dock 11 in Berlin, Amsterdam Dance Center, and GOTRA Ballet in the Netherlands, and with idance and 360° Dance in New York. Sarah’s commercial work includes dancing for Aaron Carter, Radio Disney, the Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon, and Sally Beauty conventions as well as filming for Chuck E’ Cheese commercials and in house videos. While dancing is her passion, teaching is her reward. Sarah is excited to be moving to Rapid City with her fiancé Robert who attends SDSMT and to meet a whole new group of inspiring dancers at Barefoot Dance Studio!
